Snow is Here

It feels funny that I am so excited by this first snow fall. I wasn’t exactly looking forward to it, or anticipating it. Not that I have anything against it’s white beauty. But I mean, I am grown up now. The kids have been eagerly anticipating it, hoping for it, wondering if it would ever really happen. But snow is fun for kids and generally work for adults, that’s all. Well, I tell you, I am home while Niya is napping and while I knew there was “wintery mix” in the forecast, I didn’t expect much to come of it. Lo and behold I look out the window and see full fledged snow! I feel all happy inside too. It is strange. I didn’t think I would feel this way. The kids are undoubtedly celebrating at school too. The flakes are fat and dry. They are pouring down by the billions. It is the first snow of the year and it isn’t a disappointment. My house is warm and somewhat dim. I feel like celebrating. But how? “We need more sleds” is what the children will say. I wonder how long it will stay. Hopefully long enough for them to play.

I love that the end rhymed.

I feel your excitement!!! It makes me smile and feel it too!! Crazy huh!!?? I’m envisioning the kids bursting in soon, after they run up the 5 flights, throwing down their school bags and announcing breathlessly that they have to hurry back outside, before it goes away! Possibly, their hands were pink & damp from trying to make a tiny snowball before they ran up to you!

I like thinking about your first snow because we serve the same God that may soon bring a first snow to northern VA.

When I was deployed to Iraq, I always loved looking up in the huge sky at the Big Dipper which I knew could possibly have just been seen by my friends and family a few hours before. It was always a neat reminder of being back home and of God’s grandeur.

You’ll have more and you’ll wish it’d go away and they’d turn the heat off already!! 🙂
